SMS over GSM modem/phone alert allows sending SMS (text message) over GSM modem or phone attached to the computer. This alert is the most reliable mechanism for sending notifications about system failures or serious degradation in application performance.

IPHost Network Monitor software is available in several editions: Basic, Professional and Enterprise. Basic edition has different set of features and limited to 100 monitors. Professional edition is available with 500 or 1000 monitors. Professional 1000 edition includes 5 Remote Network Agents. Enterprise edition comes with unlimited number of monitors and agents.

Network and Server Monitoring Features

IPHost Network Monitor provides constant monitoring of your network’s services and resources that are critically important for your company. Unlike many monitoring tools IPHost Network Monitor checks not only the availability of a resource but also its operability and performance characteristics. how often monitor should be checked (polling interval) and dependency on other monitor.

The base element in IPHost Network Monitor is a monitor; it is checking the availability of a service on a remote computer and requesting the value of a certain parameter. The monitor has parameters that determine:

  • monitor definition (what and how should be checked — monitoring parameters),
  • alerts to be performed when problems appear (alerting profile),
  • two levels of unavailability of monitored server (host), service or application (timeout for Down state and latency for Extended Down state).
  • two levels of unacceptable performance of monitored service or application (Performance Warning level and Performance Alert level).

Network Discovery tool

Network discovery tool in IPHost Network Monitor automatically discoverscomputers, devices, and services on IP networks in minutes. The toolinstalls in seconds and reports you the significant information aboutyour network in minutes.

With automatic network discovery IPHost Network Monitor helps you to create a basis of your monitoring configuration. Discovery automates the task of detection network hosts and network services. IPHost Network Monitor discovers hosts and services using ICMP PING, SNMP, HTTP/HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, Telnet. Software checks for services on default ports (both secure and non-secure), plus you can select additional custom ports to check. Monitors for different databases (Oracle, MySQL, ODBC), disc space or file, processor usage and other WMI and SNMP monitors you can add manually.Default monitoring and alerting settings let you start monitoring with minimum changes. Regular rediscoveries help you in equipment relocation/presence tracking.

Easy to follow three-page wizard helps you to specify network discovery parameters. To start the wizard click Discover Network button on the program toolbar or select Discover Network item from Tools menu.

Alerting Features

IPHost Network Monitor supports different methods of automatic reaction to undesirable changes on the resources and systems being monitored. The alerts are tied to the monitors and are performed when a monitor transition to one of the problem states occurs or when monitor recovers from problem state, i.e. when performance or availability issue with monitored object has resolved.

One of the main tasks of the monitoring system is execution of alerts as the monitoring system’s reaction to the appearance of performance and availability problems in the operation of resources being watched. Prompt and informative notification of a problem helps to substantially reduce the downtime of important resources, which as a result decreases the loss of work time of monitored systems and applications users and improves the effectiveness of administrator work.

The most of alerts is sending a message with information on the problem using various means (e-mail, instant messengers, SMS and others). Methods of reaction based on program start (local or remote via SSH) or SNMP SET provide additional possibilities. With the help of such alerts you can implement any method of reacting to a problem state: ranging from starting/stopping of a service on a remote machine to rebooting.

Reporting Features

IPHost Network Monitor provides a set of group and detailed reports and graphs as well as logs. The reports give you information necessary to trace the trends in resource utilization and plan upgrades, besides, the reports and logs provide the possibility to trace the results over a certain period of time; also, the reports may be used as a basis of accounting for the results of the administrators’ work.

In IPHost Network Monitor there are two variants of access to monitoring reports and graphs:

  1. Reports in Windows interface.
The Windows UI allows access to detailed reports for each monitor and to summary reports for groups and categories. A reporting period can be any number of days and hours until now. The default reporting period is 24 hours (one day) until now. To adjust the default reporting period for the Windows UI please select the Tools > Settings menu or click the Settings button on the toolbar, then select the Reporting tab and set the desired number of days and hours.
  2. Web-interface
Apart from the main Windows UI, IPHost Network Monitor also has a Web UI that provides you with online access to additional types of reports for any period of time. The Web UI consists of three panes: the contents of the left pane completely duplicates the Tree Views, the upper panel serves to select the type of report and time period, the remaining space is reserved to display a report itself.

Similar to what is implemented in the Windows UI, in the Web UI when pressing on a report reference the corresponding report is loaded and in the left panel the focus is shifted to an element corresponding to it.

Users reviews & testimonials

May I say that when we were looking at going from a free network monitoring solution (Nagios) to a paid one (yours), there was some trepidation about picking the right one. The support you have provided during this setup phase has made it well worth the money spent on your product. I have no doubt we made the right decision in buying IPHost Monitor. Knowing that I have someone to contact for help makes this so much easier - especially considering what I had to do to fix problems with Nagios. Thank you for a wonderful product, and for the wonderful support you have provided.

Great product - we are glad that we retired our old real-time monitoring engine since it was complex; we needed to have our engine interface with major alarm software manufacturers to be able to send alarm dispatchers alarm signals on network failure events, moreover, we incorporated a telephony API to the our old monitoring engine to make calls to people on network failures, I can still write custom code to do these things with IPHost, but it is good to see the real-time event monitoring handled by another component so I can stay focusses on custom programming.
